Presentations Lab 1 - CPU Benchmarks

Due date: Monday, 12/08

Save any files to Z:\cs102\present\lab1 .

From the 4 tables at this URL

 http://rockhopper.monmouth.edu/~jchung/cs102/cpu2000-110806.html

create an Excel spreadsheet (presentlab1.xlsx) containing 2 tables: CINT2000 and CFP2000 (throw away the last two tables called CINT2000 Rates and CFP2000 Rates). To do this, you should save the web page as html and then open the html file in Excel. Include these fields in your spreadsheet: Company Name, System Name, #CPU and Peak.

To perform the following analyses, export the spreadsheet tables to Access databases and run queries.

To create the presentation, use PowerPoint. Save the presentation as presentlab1.ppt. First create a title slide with the title “Presentations Lab 1: CPU Benchmarks”, then create 5 slides that include the following information (Use a suitable background image on all slides):

  • You can create the following bar charts in Excel and then copy and paste into the Google Docs Presentation:

1. A slide containing a horizontal bar chart showing the top 10 peak CINT2000 scores by System Name for single core CPUs (1 core)

2. A slide containing a horizontal bar chart showing the top 10 peak CINT2000 scores by System Name for dual core CPUs (2 cores)

3. A slide containing a horizontal bar chart showing the top 10 peak CFP2000 scores by System Name for single core CPUs (1 core)

4. A slide containing a horizontal bar chart showing the top 10 peak CFP2000 scores by System Name for dual core CPUs (2 core)

5. A bullet point slide that makes the following points:

  • Title: 'Top 10 Peak cint2000/cfp2000 Comments'
  • System Name that has the highest peak CINT2000 score (include Company Name)
  • System Name that has the highest peak cfp2000 score (include Company Name)
  • Which CPU type has the most entries in the top 10 for CINT2000? for CFP2000?
    • CPU type would be, for example, Intel Xeon, AMD Opteron, Intel Pentium 4, etc.
