Student Web Page Creation, Word Processing
Tasks:
- Learn to login remotely to rockhopper or Linux lab. Remember UNIX password.
- Run Konqueror file manager in UNIX to create ~/public_html and ~/public_html/index.html .
- In Windows, access Z: drive (UNIX home dir mounted as Z: in Windows).

Student Web Page Creation
- Your student web pages will be hosted on rockhopper.monmouth.edu, a CS Linux server.
- Login remotely to rockhopper, using your CS UNIX account.
- Using IceWM → Konqueror (file manager), create a public_html folder inside your home directory and an index.html file inside that folder.
- Use Konqueror to set appropriate permissions for Web documents.
- Your home page URL is now (for example),
http://rockhopper.monmouth.edu/~s0456789
- Unless you are already a html wizard and can create pages using a plain text editor, you are encouraged to use Kompozer to create web pages.
- Run 'kompozer' at a command line.
- Remember to save all pages under the public_html directory in your home directory.
HTML assignment 1
DUE DATE: Mon, 9/8
Create your student web page on rockhopper.
On your web page, create a hyperlink to a separate page, specifically for CS 102 (cs102.html). The cs102.html file that you create will be your course journal and will count toward your final grade for assignments. After each week of the course, you will be required to post a brief summary (no more than 100 words) of what was covered in class that week.
By Monday, you should have posted on your CS 102 web page a brief summary of what was covered in class in the first week.

Word processing lab activity
- Create one document per lab assignment.
YOU MUST use the naming scheme, cs102wordlab1.doc, cs102wordlab2.doc, etc. NEVER put spaces in file names in CS 102.
Save all files to a cs102/word folder on your Z: drive (Z:\cs102\word) .
