You probably want help with mediawiki formatting rules and maybe a wiki sandbox to practice those formatting rules in. A good place to start is,

If you're the Sysop, please read the fine manual. Information on customizing the navigation links to the left is found at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Navigation_bar. After that, go to http://rockhopper.monmouth.edu/wiki/index.php/MediaWiki:Sidebar, and try to figure out how the syntax there results in the navigation links text.
